Gift Certificate FAQs
Gift certificates expire 6 months from the date they're issued. Or, if we know the date you'll be giving the certificate, we can set the expiration for six months from that date. We've found that setting an expiration date actually increases the percentage of certificates that are redeemed. Also, from a business standpoint, since we are selling a therapist's time rather than durable goods, we need to control how many outstanding certificates exist at any particular time. We also need to allow for rate increases or for unforseen changes in the business. Sure. We ask that you please give us a call before the certificate expires. Just let us know how long an extension you'll need. (For instance, do you need just a couple of weeks, or are you waiting until "after the baby is born?") We generally do not accept expired certificates, although we've been known to make exceptions if the certificate has only recently expired. If rates have increased since the certificate was issued, you may be asked to pay the difference in order to redeem your expired certificate. Absolutely! Our gift certificates are redeemable by the bearer, regardless of whose name is written on them. You do not need to notify us if you intend to transfer your gift certificate to another person. Simply give them the certificate, and they can redeem it at our office. Because our gift certificates are redeemable by the bearer, we regret we cannot replace lost gift certificates. Anyone finding the lost certificate would be able to use it. However, if no one has yet redeemed your lost certificate, we may be able to help. Give us a call and provide the names of the giver and recipient and the approximate date of issue. If we can locate your certificate number and if it has not been redeemed by someone else, we may be able to honor it. Only the recipient indicated in our records can redeem the certificate in this way, and he or she will be asked to sign that they have redeemed the certificate. Certainly. For instance, if you receive two half-hour certificates you can combine them to receive a one-hour massage session.
Yes, you can, but there may be an additional charge. We credit you the dollar value of your certificate toward however many sessions you'd like to have. For instance, if you receive a one-hour certificate valued at $50 and you want to split it into two half-hour sessions at $30 each, you would be charged an additional $10. The reason for this is that with two sessions, your therapist has twice the set-up and clean-up time and uses twice the amount of linens.
First, we'd like for you to explore why you don't want to redeem your certificate. We regularly have first-time clients who had to be cajoled into the experience. But by the end of their session, they can't believe what they've been missing all these years! Some people don't think massage is "for them:" that it's either too decadent, too painful (as portrayed in sitcoms by some stereotypical Scandinavian massage therapist digging in with elbows and causing much discomfort), or that it is some sort of "adult" or sexual entertainment. (It's NOT!) People with these concerns may not realize that massage therapy takes many forms, from a gentle, nurturing, and pampering experience to intensive deep muscle therapy. It's you, the client, who determines what type of massage is desired. And even though massage feels wonderful, it is also full of health benefits. In fact, medical doctors and chiropractors refer their patients to us for stress-related problems or muscle pain and tension. Some people may be worried about their self image...that they are too old, fat, ugly, or too something to enjoy a massage. These people, especially, don't know what they're missing. We enjoy working on clients of all shapes, sizes, and ages. Other people may just be shy about disrobing or concerned about being touched. Let us reassure you that you disrobe in private and cover yourself with a sheet on the table before your therapist enters the room. During your massage, the sheet is used as a drape, protecting your modesty. You will never be touched in a sexual manner. And your therapist will adjust his/her technique and pressure according to your comfort level. We also offer non-massage bodywork styles that do not require disrobing. If you have a specific concern we haven't covered, please call or email us so that we can address it and determine a way for you to comfortably add the benefits of bodywork to your life. If, however, you still decide that you do not want to redeem your certificate, you may, of course, transfer it to anyone you choose. Our certificates are good for use with any of our talented therapists. If you have a specific therapist in mind, we can include our card with your recommendation, but we can't guarantee that the recipient of the gift certificate will schedule with that therapist. The recipient is free to schedule with any therapist.
Yes. If there is a therapist specified on your certificate, it is a recommendation from the person who purchased your certificate. You are free to select a different therapist if you'd like. Yes. You simply need to pay the difference between the value of the gift certificate and the cost of the session you receive. For instance, if you have a half-hour massage certificate worth $30 and you want to schedule an hour massage (worth $50), you would simply pay the $20 difference. You can just call our office and give us the gift certificate number. Most massage gift certificates with no therapist specification will be worth $30 for a half-hour, $50 for an hour, and $75 for an hour-and-a-half. You can check our rates page for more information. Be aware, however, that gift certificates are redeemable only for services at Center of Balance. They have no cash value.
If you think you have enough people interested in contributing money toward a certificate for a single individual, then yes, we'd be glad to set it up for you. Just email us the specifics and we can add a button just for you on our website. You can also use the teacher appreciation section as it is. Enter the individual's name where it says "teacher" and put the organization's name where it says "school." You'll need to then send us a separate email with mailing instructions. At Center of Balance, tipping is appreciated but never expected. For clients who choose to tip, $5 or $10 is the usual amount. For your information, if you travel and receive massage elsewhere, tipping expectations do vary within the massage therapy field. A general rule of thumb is that the more spa-like the facility, the more tipping is likely to be expected. The more medical-like the facility, the less likely it is that tipping will be expected. If you're concerned, it's best to ask the management of the facility in question. At Center of Balance, we feel that tipping should be strictly optional, as an expression of extra appreciation, at the client's discretion.
PayPal
provides our shopping cart and electronic processing for all of
our online transactions. When you make a selection, it will automatically
be added to your shopping cart. From there, you can continue shopping
or checkout. You do not have to have or create a PayPal account
in order to shop online with us. If you do not have an account,
simply choose the 'secure checkout' selection.(If you are not offered
that option, click here.) You will be
asked to enter your shipping and billing addresses and credit card
information. Since PayPal handles the processing, your credit card
or banking account information is never present on the Center of
Balance website. PayPal's guaranteed secure site is in charge of
all your sensitive information. PayPal will ask if you would like
for them to create an account for you, using the information you've
supplied. You, of course, have the option to refuse. However, creating
an account simplifies future PayPal transactions from this website
or from any of the countless other online vendors who use this method
of payment. It's quick, easy, and always free for you to use. If
